Raund Haus is celebrating 5 years with a compilation titled ‘RH - 101’ of previously unreleased tracks from partners and affiliates of the Durham, NC based collective. Sourced from artists almost entirely based in North Carolina that have graced the stage of a Raund Haus event or dropped records with the label over the years, the release is a shining example of the crew’s varied approach to capturing and promoting forward thinking art and music from North Carolina, the Southeast, and the World.
Raund Haus’ origins date back to 2016 at a time in which various converging forces recognized an untapped outlet for beats and electronic music in the North Carolina Triangle scene. Emerging from this reality, Raund Haus developed as a showcase for artists in Durham that combined local talent with premier sonic explorers from all over the US that were invited to bear witness to the undeniable talent and thriving community in venues throughout Durham. Raund Haus quickly expanded into a record label to release and support these artists and has had a trajectory that has been all over the place in the best way possible.
The collection on RH - 101 is the perfect vessel for the continuously evolving and expansive vision of the label. With a basis in the music of the beat scene originators in LA and the Hip Hop legacy of the East Coast, the compilation begins with head nodding tracks from Saint James, b0nds and kyoju along with a couple of choice cuts from twin brothers out of Virigina, j0eru and Pixl Pyrmd. Raund Haus co-founder Trandle exhibits some trademark wonkyness and OG Senpaiii keeps it heady before the record morphs into a more broadly electronic focus with the likes of upbeat house of Footrocket, heavy bass from Charlotte’s axnt , and particularly trip-hop laden vibe from CALAPSE. RH-101 is rounded out by some more uptempo transmissions via Ronnie Flash and Treee City with the final slot going to an emotive selection from another Raund Haus co-founder Hubbble.
